Sulfur generates toxic vapor for the fungus, blocking mitochondrial respiration. It also interferes with the fungus’s metabolism, inhibiting the enzymes in the respiratory chain. It prevents the fungus from germinating before infection and causes direct damage to mycelium and spores. In mites, sulfur vapor disrupts respiration.It also causes desiccation, death, or reduced mobility. Another form of action is that it causes a decrease in mite egg laying.
