Botrybel exceeds 90% efficacy against Monilinia in peach orchards

febrero 27, 2026

Brown rot (Monilinia spp.) is one of the most limiting diseases in stone fruit crops, particularly in peaches, due to its direct impact on fruit quality and the economic losses it causes both in the field and during postharvest.

Under favorable humidity and temperature conditions, the disease can lead to:

  • High incidence of fruit rot
  • Rapid increase in disease severity close to harvest
  • Significant reduction in marketable yield
  • Postharvest storage and shelf-life issues

At the same time, the growing demand for more sustainable crop protection strategies is driving the need for effective biological solutions capable of reducing residues while maintaining crop profitability.

Trial context

The trial was conducted in a commercial peach orchard of the variety Rojo de Albesa (Prunus persica) under field conditions in:

Alfarràs (Lleida, Spain)
Season: March – October 2016

Crop conditions:

  • Open field cultivation with drip irrigation
  • Clay-loam soil
  • Average temperature: 21 °C
  • Total rainfall: 181 mm

Disease pressure during the trial ranged from moderate to high, with a uniform distribution across the plot, providing strong reliability and representativeness to the results obtained.

The study was carried out by the specialized research company PHYTEST HISPANA

About Botrybel

Botrybel® is a biological fungicide based on Bacillus amyloliquefaciens, developed for the preventive and active control of fungal diseases in horticultural and fruit crops.

Its mode of action combines several key mechanisms:

  • Production of antifungal metabolites that inhibit pathogen development
  • Competition for space and nutrients on plant surfaces
  • Induction of the plant’s natural defense mechanisms
  • Protection of the fruit in the field and reduction of latent infections

This multimode action allows effective disease control within integrated crop management strategies, without generating residues and with excellent compatibility in sustainable production programs.

Trial data: applications and dosage

Product evaluated: Botrybel® SC
Active ingredient: Bacillus amyloliquefaciens

  • Spray volume: 1000 L/ha
  • Dose: 15 ml/L
  • Number of applications: 4
  • Application method: Foliar spray
  • Interval: 7–163 days depending on the phenological stage

Applications were carried out between flowering and fruit ripening (BBCH 65–87), covering the most critical infection periods.

An untreated control plot was included for comparison.

Results

The results demonstrated a high level of biological efficacy under real disease pressure conditions

Field control

  • Severity control: 92.12 %
  • Incidence control: 90.2 %

Clear and statistically significant differences were observed compared with the untreated control, with a strong reduction in disease development on treated fruits.

Postharvest

  • Postharvest incidence reduction: 32.99 %

These results highlight an additional benefit: a reduction in latent infections and improved fruit preservation after harvest

Safety

  • No phytotoxicity symptoms were observed
  • No negative effects on non-target organisms were detected
  • The formulation showed good handling properties for mixing and application

Conclusions

The trial confirms that Botrybel® is a highly effective biological tool for the control of Monilinia in peach orchards, even under moderate to high disease pressure conditions.

Key agronomic benefits include:

  • Strong reduction of disease incidence and severity in the field
  • Improved fruit health before harvest
  • Lower postharvest disease problems
  • Excellent crop safety
  • Compatibility with sustainable programs and residue-reduction strategies

Overall, Botrybel enables growers to:

  • Protect production during critical crop stages
  • Improve marketable fruit quality
  • Reduce economic losses
  • Integrate highly effective biological strategies into crop protection programs
